Sunderland 2-0 Pompey… A Sign of Things to Come?

In a very lacklustre display, Pompey slumped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands to Sunderland, or more precisely, Kieran Richardson who got two good goals.
Pompey never looked like winning this game and it’s very dissapointing when you consider our awy form this season.
There was a rare start for Dave Nugent however he failed to make any sort of impact on the game. He appeared to be out of his depth in this game. However he hasn’t played much this season so it may have been a lack of sharpness.
Pompey as a whole lacked any sort of creative spark or flair. Even the usually ‘electric’ Niko Kranjcar had an off-day.
I only hope this isn’t a sign of things to come. What with the African contingent away, we just didn’t look like the same team. We lacked the pace and direct running of Utaka, the physicality of Diop, the energy of Muntari and the hold up play and unpredictability of Kanu up front.
However the most worrying thing is that our usually rock solid defence looked incredibly shakey. Sol Campbell was run ragged by the exuberant Kenwyne Jones.
If this is how we are going to cope with the loss of players to the African Cup of Nations then there’s no doubt we need strengthening if we are to accomplish our dream of a Uefa Cup spot.
Play Up POMEY!!!
