Pompey Capture £5million Diarra
By: b-man | January 17th, 2008
It was today confirmed that Portsmouth had signed French international Lassana Diarra from Arsenal for a fee around the £5mil-£5.5mil mark.
What a fantastic transfer! Being realistic, I seriously can’t think of any other player in the world who has his quality, potential and experience available for just £5mil.
When he was at Chelsea I didn’t think too much of him, however after watching him several times for Arsenal it is clear that he is pure class. A tenacious tackler, a workahloic, and a great technical player.
He can sit in the defensive midfield role, play as a more attacking cm or even do a great job at full back. He’s got good enough acceleration to play right wing too.
The good thing is, he isn’t just a player we’ve signed for a bit of cover while Papa and Sulley are away but I definately think there’s a place for him in the first team.
Him, Diop and Muntari in the middle would dominate any team through pure physical prowess.
I’m sure all gooners are very very dissapointed to see him leave. I know Arsene Wenger was. However their loss is most certainly our gain!

True ‘gooner’. It seems to me like he’s a bit of a stroppy guy though but he can easily change my mind with a few commited performances (see Nic Anelka!).
However you do have an abundance of midfield talent. At least now fringe players such as Denilson will have a better chance of getting a game.
