An Easy opener? Chelsea Away
By: b-man | June 16th, 2008What better way to start our season off with a bang?! To beat Phil Scolari’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge could and probably would be the catalyst for another great season!
After that slight piece of optimism I’ve got my feet firmly back on the ground. This is a terrible draw! Surely Chelsea away ensures an easier second game? Try Manchester United at home. Now I, along with most of English football am praying that Ronaldo leaves!
After this the fixtures begin to steady out slightly with a trip to Goodison Park, and games against ‘Boro’ and Spurs.
Analysis of our opening 5 games? Again?!? Last season we had to play each of the big four in our first six games, so on the face of it, things could have been worse!
Our last 5 games start with Newcastle away; followed by Arsenal at home; A visit to Ewood Park to play ‘Sparkyless’ Blackburn; Roy Keane’s Sunderland at Fratton Park and finally an away match against Wigan at the JJB.
I like the sound of these last five games except the game against Arsenal. I really fancy them for the title next season and after this season’s dissapointment they’ll be really determined to show they’re not botlers.
Wigan last game of the season could also be tough what with them likely to be in a relegation scrap.
The other three are pretty generous fixtures.

Chelsea’s first game under Scolari….Pompey can sneak a win there. With the confidence boost they can do well in the other matches too.

We’ll have to see who each club purchases. If Chelsea do, as many people are suggesting, get Deco and Ronnie then I’d definately see a Chelsea victory as they’d at that little bit extra to a solid Chelsea team.

I tend not to worry about fixture order. You have to play everyone at sometime anyway. That said, we’ve never beaten Chelsea at their place, we have a good history with Manu at home, Goodison…ouch!, and Spurs and Boro are both bogey teams for us lately, so it could very well be a tough start.

The problem is that the mid-field is terrible! Chelsea ran circles around Diarra and Co. today.
Disaster.
