FA Cup 5th round: Preston 0-1 Portsmouth
By: b-man | February 17th, 2008
Portsmouth needed some David James heroics and a last gasp own goal from Darren Carter to ensure our name’s in the hat for the 6th round draw.
After a first half in which Pompey became the dominant force, Preston were the side that came out in the second half really looking to win it. They had the majority of the chances and Pompeys 5 man midfield failed to dominate proceedings as they usually do.
David James was forced into numerous saves including an extremely athletic stretch to keep out a Neil Mellor stike.

Jamo also kept out a second half penalty from midfielder Whaley.
However it wasn’t all brilliance from James, his kicking in particular was very poor today.
The team that Harry put out was probably the stongest we have (perhaps with the exception of Jermain Defoe). The three central midfielders (Muntari, Diop, Daiarra) are enough to scare any of Europe’s major clubs.
While it wasn’t the best of Pompey today, at the end of the day at least we will be in the draw at 1.30 tomorow and that’s all that counts.
PLAY UP POMPEY!

It doesn’t matter if you win 1-0 in the last minute or 5-0, the point is we’re through. Are You? No.
