Does Fratton Park need expanding?
By: b-man | October 3rd, 2007It’s a question that’s been bugging me for months now. There’s so many valid points to each side of the argument. It really does have me ‘bamboozlefied’ (heard it here first). The reason I’m so ‘bamboozled’ (also heard it here first) is because part of me desperately wants Fratton Park’s cappacity to be increased to about 35,000 or something similar, however the other half of me is desperate for it to remain how it is and keep it’s tradition. Fratton Park got a slight renovation over the summer, the away fans now have a roof over their head. Although I’m not so sure I like that. I remember sitting watching the game against Southampton a few years back when they were getting absolutely drenched! That put a constant smile on my face for weeks! Just imagine though all the extra income we’d generate from ticket sales. We’ve all seen Arsenal shoot up the rich list because of their new Emirates Stadium. But a lot of Gooners that I speak to miss Highbury dearly. They miss the tradition and history of the place, despite the fact that the Emirates is awesome (Went there a few weeks back when we lost 3-1, and was very, very impressed). Just take a second to think about the noise we’d create if we had an extra 15,000 Pompey fans in there! It’s been proven that the volume to cappacity ratio is higher at Fratton Park than anywhere else. Yet whose to say we’d fill that many seats each week? It would be horrible to look at rows and rows of empty seats (just watch a mid table match at the Riverside).
Please someone, help clear my mind by summing up the overall best decision!
